I took the boys to the park today. Elliot has been to the park before...but he has always slept through it all. Today we put a blanket down on the floor and he watched the wind blow in the needles of the trees. He got to sit and watch Hayden run around like a mad man. Somehow, Elliot was able to fall asleep in his stroller despite the 93 degree heat and the squeals coming from Hayden! Needless to say, when we got back from the park, Hayden, Elliot and Boone all took a three hour nap while I enjoyed the quiet!!

Hayden and Elliot
A Boy And His Dog
Hayden is really starting to take an interest in "oone" (Boone, to you and I!) and loves to play with him. He also pets him, cuddles him and kisses him. He likes to give him his daily rawhide....well, he makes "oone" chase him before he lets him earn it - but same thing! It makes me happy that the boys have such a good dog to grow up with.

Playing In The Tube
Hayden and I played in the back garden this morning. We played in the tube that I bought him a couple of weeks ago...apparently, the fun-ness factor of the tube only gets better with age and today the fun factor peaked! Hayden has learned that he can put the tube on over his head and have it stand up above him with him inside of it...he has also learned that he can roll in the tube up and down the lawn. He was having a blast this morning...in fact, we repeated the fun this afternoon when he woke up from his nap!
*Side Note* - The highlight of Elliot's day was his realization that he can get his toes into his mouth with rather apparent ease.

Special Day
Today is July 8th and it is special for two reasons...both of which are related to Elliot.
One year ago today, we got the most unexpected, "how could this happen?" kind of news - we found out we were pregnant with Elliot! Elliot was not planned...at all. I was dumb-founded that this could be happening - especially as it took 18-months to get pregnant with Hayden, and Elliot decided to show up despite the use of birth control!! Nevertheless, there is a reason that pregnancy is nine-months long...it gave me time to get used to the idea of having two children and allowed me to get excited! Am I happy now? Absolutely! I wouldn't trade Elliot for all the world.
Today is also Elliot's four-month birthday. Happy birthday our gorgeous boy!

Fourth Of July Celebrations
This past weekend was Independence Day. Burney holds all it's celebrations on the Saturday closest to the 4th...so, Shane and I headed out to the parade with the boys. Elliot got really tired and fell asleep at the start of the parade. Amazingly, he was able to sleep through the bag pipes, car horns, screams and cheers; however, he woke up when the fire trucks, police cars etc went by with their sirens wailing and horns honking. Hayden was in truck heaven. He loved the bag pipe band; but, he adored the fire trucks, cement mixers, flat bed trucks and all the other big vehicles.
After the parade, the boys took a nap and then Shane and I took Hayden over to the neighbors while Shirley looked after Elliot for us. The neighbors have a wonderful pool in their back garden that Hayden and I took complete advantage of. They also had finger foods that Hayden indulged in. Shane and I had a great time as well - we got to chit chat and hang out with our neighbors and friends. It was a lovely afternoon.
None of us made it to the fireworks in the evening. The boys fell asleep and so Shirley, Shane and I watched some of them from our back garden.
On our way to the parade:

Nana
Shane's mum, Shirley, has been with us for about a month now and she could not have timed it better. June is a crazy month for me at work...and Elliot had been coming to work with me due to his sincere lack of desire to entertain drinking from a bottle. June is not a good month to have a baby out there while entertaining 25+ guests on an almost daily basis. Shirley has been able to look after Elliot during the day while Hayden goes to the babysitters and I am at work. Throughout June, Shirley and the babysitters traded who they had so Shirley could spend some quality time with her grandson's and the Betz's could get used to Elliot.
I am so thankful for Shirley being here. She has really spoiled us by doing our laundry, keeping the house tidy and doing dishes. She has been great moral support while Shane and I have been so tired. Thank you Shirley....so very much...for all you have done for us.

Summer Time = Pool Time
As with last summer, Hayden and I are very excited that the Burney Pool has opened. It is a perfect place to go to on these 90 degree days. We have only managed to make it once so far...and these are the pictures to prove it.
Last summer, Hayden was not walking yet and was using the inflatable crab to keep him upright in the water. I know that would not go over well this summer. After getting his bearings and his bravery, Hayden did start to walk around the water as well as get down on his hands and knees...in fact, at one point he was on his hands with his legs straight out behind him. Unfortunately, he did have one fall where he went completely under. It scared me...thankfully, I was able to get my face on straight by the time he got upright and we were able to giggle about it. I was sure that he would not go near the water after that...but, after drying his eyes, he went right back in. Phew.

Chatterbox Elliot
Elliot will be four months old in a couple of days. It is hard to believe that four months have already gone by. He has started talking...a lot. The below video was taken at the end of June when he had only just got started. Now, he talks loud, constantly and particularly at 5am. Shane and I say that it sounds as though he is giving us a lecture. What is even funnier, is when he is talking he cracks himself up...he just laughs and laughs. It is so funny.
Elliot is a sweet baby. He is our social butterfly. He just wants to be with people, he wants to hear voices (and if he can't hear any...he talks to fill in the void) and he wants to see the whites of people's eyes. He has started reaching for everything and immediately pulls them to his mouth. He chews on anything he can, including his fingers. He hates laying on his belly; although, he is starting to put up with it more and more as he realizes that he can see things from another perspective. He does not do anything unless he wants to...we operate on Elliot's time! But, he is sweet. His smile radiates out of his eyes long before it reaches his mouth - which I love. It is a genuine smile, one of pure joy.

Helpful Hayden
Hayden is at the stage where he wants to do everything Shane and I are doing. He has a lawn mower and wheelbarrow to help Shane around the garden...and he likes to help me with the dishes as I get dinner ready at night.
He has started speaking in multiple word sentences...he tells Boone to eat sand out of the sand box, asks for a "bite, please", asks for "milk, blanket, book, couch" when he is tired as well as many other sentences (which can be misunderstood to be orders!). New words enter his vocabulary every day and he constantly spots "Os" and "Ss" every where. He is showing an increased interest in numbers as well as letters and is very proud of himself for being able to write a "1". He does not have much time for drawing; however, he has plenty of time for anything involving water...hoses, pools, bath tubs, water tables - you name it. He loves watching Shane build things and tear things apart. I think he is going to be a lot like Shane in his drive to know how things work. He is so much fun...he just loves to laugh.

A Morning At The Ranch
OK, so I admit, I have been far too neglectful of my blog. So, prepare yourself for a mass of pictures and videos to show you some of the things we have been up to the past three weeks.
On June 22nd, Hayden, Elliot and I went out to the horse ranch to visit with Diane. Hayden had not seen the horses in a long while and Elliot had never been out - in fact, he had not even had the opportunity to meet Diane. It was a lovely morning...blue sky, warm sun, green grass, happy horses...just nice. Hayden had fun playing with Katie (the dog) as well as enjoying a few well deserved barn cookies (aka vanilla wafers). Once he woke up, Elliot enjoyed laying down in the grass watching the white puffy clouds go by while Diane and I chatted away.
As you can tell by the below pictures, Hayden is now showing an interest in his brother. He now cuddles him, kisses him, brings diapers and wipes when Elliot needs to be changed, is concerned for where Elliot is and wants to take him to the babysitters. All this is lovely to see. Hayden has never been mean or rude to Elliot...he has just never shown any remote, little interest in him. This change in behavior is lovely to watch - he is a sweet and kind older brother.
